We all have that neurotic friend, but what happens when that neurotic friend is your dog?
Itâs easier to deal with when there is an obvious cause for your petâs discomfort. Fireworks and thunderstorms are common reasons dogs might tuck their tails and run. Your dog might get nervous around strangers or other dogs or show signs of separation anxiety.
But when your dog seems stressed out all the time, you may begin feeling hopeless â and stressed out yourself.
Symptoms of Chronic Canine Anxiety
Canine Trade Group cites general anxiety as one of the top reasons clients reach out to them. If your dog exhibits any of the following symptoms, youâll want to check out our tips below â and possibly seek a certified dog trainer in your area.
Whining and whimpering
Hiding
Trembling
Avoiding eye contact
Inability to settle
Lack of interest in interacting
Itâs important to note that while dogs with specific triggers may have more acute reactions, like wetting themselves or reacting aggressively, dogs with general or chronic anxiety will exhibit these milder symptoms on a more regular basis.
Sit & Stay Pro Tips â Help your dog keep calm and carry on.
Use training techniques and exercise to keep your dogâs focus outward instead of inward. Have you ever gotten stuck in your own head and couldnât get out until you found the right distraction? Unfortunately, dogs canât binge-watch Netflix or chat with a therapist, so itâs up to you to plant their focus on something other than their fears.
The easiest way to do this is with basic obedience training and regular exercise. If your dog is tired from a long walk, theyâll have less time and energy to worry. If you notice your dog showing signs of anxiety at home, being able to draw their focus away with a simple command, like âsitâ or âlay down,â can keep your pup from spiraling.
Be 100% sure there are no triggers. You may not see anything triggering your dogâs anxiety, but spend some time observing your pet to be absolutely sure there isnât something in or out of the home stressing your dog out. Canine behavioral professionals can help with this step.
Set an example. According to Psychology Today, anxious pet owners are more likely to have anxious pets. Make sure youâre taking care of your mental health, too.

Vet Recommendations â To medicate or not to medicate?
Just as no person should feel embarrassed when taking medicine for anxiety, we shouldnât feel ashamed about seeking anxiety medication for our dogs. In a PetMD article, veterinarian Dr. Adam Denish states that behavior modification should always be the first step, but âsometimes a two-fold approach needs to be taken.â

You said, "...we shouldnât feel ashamed about seeking anxiety medication for our dogs."
Yes, we absolutely should feel red-faced ashamed for giving our dogs synthetic chemicals of any kind whatsoever. Biological bodies, NOT designed & engineered by mankind, do NOT welcome or benefit from synthetic chemicals. Yes, there are convenient illusions that make it appear that they seem to have helped, but the body recovered IN SPITE OF the medication and not because of it.
The manufacturers of synthetic chemical medicines have, over the years through mass media propaganda, convinced you that biological health is simply a matter of chemistry -- and that it makes perfectly logical sense to give an organic, natural body made of natural minerals, water and sunshine, an artificial, lab created, unnatural, synthetic chemical (often petroleum based).
**"Pharmaceuticals represent about 3% of petrochemical use but almost 99% of pharmaceuticals contain petrochemicals.
It has also convinced you that Nature is evil & stupid and was not able to produce biological bodies capable of surviving or thriving without synthetic chemicals like vaccines & antibiotics. It convinced you that Nature, far from possessing an intelligence superior to mankind, did something completely absurd and self-defeating by creating pathogenic, microscopic creatures ("viruses") to attack its robust creatures and make them contagious to one another.
But Nature did no such thing. No illness or disease or health condition has ever been spreadable or shareable or transmissible. Each biological body's health condition is unique, subjective, and personal. It cannot be transferred. Yes, there are convenient illusions that someone "spread" their condition like chicken pox or cold or flu or herpes or a so-called STD, but they are only phenomena that have been misinterpreted by Allopathic Medicine (modern day typical healthcare in English speaking countries). There are other explanations for why the symptoms show up and why it appears they have been transmitted.
If you consider yourself a do-gooder for writing such a newsletter in an attempt to help those who own dogs, shouldn't you first check the evidence for any claims made by so-called experts & authorities? Shouldn't you have a little peek at the synthetic chemical-based medications prescribed for dogs suffering from anxiety? Have a look at the clinical trials and scrutinize the methodology they used to convince themselves that #1, the drug is effective, and #2, there are no ill effects (short term or long term) neurologically or physiologically from the drug? And how long did the study follow the dogs after the treatments/trials ceased? One week? Three months? 5 years? Until death? Or no goddamn time at all?
Look up the following phrases >> Appeal to Authority & Appeal to Consensus.
My grandparents fed their dogs & cats a raw diet, never took them to the vets, never gave them any medicines of any kind, and certainly never vaxxed them, and those dogs & cats would live until their 20s and NOT die of cancer but only die of old age.
Do you know how many cats I killed with antibiotics & vaccines from 2001 - 2019? Do you know how many of my cats over nearly a 20 year period developed cancerous tumors and/or epilepsy? That shit was never heard of before the 20th century!!
So-called cancer was rare in humans before 1900 and virtually unheard of in dogs & cats. So what changed around 1900? The corporatization of healthcare? The industrial sized output of petroleum based pharmaceuticals for animals & humans?
Did you know that healthcare in the 1800s and early 1900s was NOT in the Top 10 leading causes of death? Did you know that today it has been declared to be the 3rd leading cause of death (and nevermind the non-death cases of needless suffering & chronic conditions caused by the toxic medicines)?

Those two links are as mainstream and Establishment-approved of as you could ever hope to find.
3rd leading cause of death and it used to not even be in the top 10...Your allopathic doctor...Your allopathic vet...Doing more harm than good...Miseducated about health, biology, and chemistry for over 100 years just to support a refuted hypothesis known as The Germ Theory, which is used as a justification for the prescription and sales of harmful chemicals presented as beneficent medicines.
So, the long and short of it is this >> As trite & exaggerated as it may sound, we've been lied to about health for over 100 years by chemical-merchant profiteers. They taught us to suppress the symptoms that are actually the body's means of remediating & recovering its health. They've pretended to have used "science" to remove the trickiness & mysteriousness about health -- and yet they are the THIRD leading cause of death & misery! How do you reconcile THAT?
They've PRETENDED they know what they are talking about. And we blindly trusted them. You can verify their frauds by scrutinizing their published studies, trials, and experiments. You do not have to go to school to do this. You do not need any degree. You may need to learn some definitions of terms in order to study the relevant sections of a paper, but that is easy to do with Google. Other than that, it's simply a matter of using common sense & simple logic & reasoning & intuition when scrutinizing their claims -- be those claims about a so-called "virus" or other alleged causes of illness & disease, or be those claims about the safety & efficacy of a medication or treatment.
No, for the love of your dog, do not give it ANY medications. The pseudoscientists have ZERO ability to know what kind of long term damage to the brain and/or mind those neurological/psychological medications cause. They don't even usually bother to conduct any long term studies for ANY medication or vaccine.
Anxiety, like any symptom, is natural for some animals & humans and should not be suppressed -- least of all by synthetic medications. Some dogs, like some humans, are scaredy cats their entire lives. The best you can do is to show them love & affection as much as possible. Keep their environment safe & peaceful and free from pollutants & household/garden chemicals. Keep them free from the vets & injections & meds. Feed them a raw diet. Don't smoke around them. Don't burn incense around them. Don't feed them sugary foods. Pet them and hug them as often as it occurs to you. Tell them frequently that you love them and you are so glad they are your friend here in this prison sentence nightmare.
